Potluck fruit/veggie/salad suggestions?
Hello all, I'm going to a potluck tomorrow evening and have been assigned by the alphabetical order scheme the requirement to bring something in the "fruit/veggie/salad" category. I originally thought about going with an old standby.
But then I realized that the potluck starts at 6 p.m. and I have class 3:30-5:30. The standby I was thinking of needs to be served fresh, it can't wait around for two and a half hours, even if I don't add the dressing.
So does anyone have any suggestions? There's a separate part of the alphabet doing veggie side dishes and veggie entrees so I think I'm supposed to stick with the lighter options (fruits or veggies or salads of some kind). I would make it before class, because I can't go home in between, and then bring it to school with me. It would have to hold up unrefrigerated for those couple of hours, until the potluck.
Any ideas at all would be much appreciated!

Kraft Asian Toasted Sesame Dressing.
Does anyone have a recipe that incorporates Kraft Asian Toasted Sesame dressing?
I bought this dressing and it's delicious! I can't think of anything to use it for other than salads. Any suggestions?!

Double Happiness Thai dish?
Hello all! I have a recipe request.
I am reading a book (The Geography of Bliss
by Eric Weiner) and while the author is in Thailand he mentions a dish called "Double Happiness" that he says is "tofu stuffed with noodles."
Has anyone here ever heard of a Thai dish like this? Better - does anyone have the recipe?! It sounds delicious!

I'm trying to knock out all of my co-workers' Christmas gifts in one fell swoop. I was thinking I could bake them all a loaf of cinnamon bread in disposable pans and wrap them in holiday themed cellophane. Easy enough, right? Anyway, does anyone have some good recipes for this sort of endeavor? Also, do you these could freeze if I baked them in batches over the course of a week? Any good freezing techniques?

Gingerbread house & vegan cookies.
1. I've decided to make a ginger bread house for a kindergarten class that I work with. Do any of you know of good, tried and true tutorials for making them from scratch?
2. I'm also making cookies for the after-school group. One kid has a SEVERE allergy to dairy, so I'm looking for some dairy free desserts. My plan is cookies, but anything that'll be easy to package/hand out is great.
Any ideas on the use of kidney beans??
I only ever use them to make chili, which I just made the other day and I have a good bit of kidney beans left in a jumbo can than need to be used up.

im moving soon so im trying to finish up the groceries ive got instead of buying new groceries. i have chicken breasts and frozen vegetables in the freezer as well as some fresh vegetables and potatoes as well as ground turkey. i think i can manage doing something with the ground turkey, but i feel like ive been doing pretty much the same thing with the chicken and vegs. i either do some kind of asian stir fry or roast the chicken and vegetables after seasoning with italian spices and herbs.
does anyone have any other suggestions??
im ok with buying small things that i can finish in one or two uses if necessary for a recipe, such as tomato paste or something like that.

Savory autumn snacks?
We always have invited speakers in my department on Fridays and each week a different student is responsible for buying the snacks for after the talk. This week is my turn and I'm trying to bring autumn themed foods. The problem is that I'll get to campus around 10AM and the food won't be served until around 5PM. I might have access to a fridge, but whatever I buy will definitely be sitting out for at least a couple of hours before being eaten. I won't have access to anything that would heat food between me getting to campus and serving the food. I've come up with a few ideas, but I'm especially struggling with trying to think of savory snacks. We only get $25 for everything (and I live in Seattle where food is expensive), so I can't do anything super expensive. Suggestions? Here's what I'm thinking so far:
pumpkin maple bars

My husband pulled out some ground chicken from the freezer the other day, and I need to do something with it before it goes bad. I don't want to make pasta sauce, or chili though. Any other suggestions?

Brown rice or whole wheat pasta recipes?
Hey everyone. My doctor wants me to switch to eating brown rice instead of white rice, and whole wheat pasta instead of regular pasta. Does anyone have any specific recipes for either of these? Also, does anyone know if I can substitute brown rice/whole wheat pasta for their normal counterparts in recipes or would that not work? I'm wondering because sometimes I see recipes for specifically one over the other, and I wasn't sure if there was a reason for that.
Thanks in advance!

My Hubby is deployed over seas for the next 4 months (maybe longer) and while i've been sending him cards and such I want to send a care package for his birthday... He says one of the things he misses most is my cooking...
I have no idea what i can make that will survive a trip over seas. Does anyone have any tried and true items that are easy to make and can last a mail trip to Guam? other than beef jerky?

A basket of ricotta.
So, I just bought some ricotta the other day at Fresh & Easy, and I was wondering what I could use it in? I mean, other than cheesecakes and lasagna of course. Does anyone know some tasty recipes that call for it? I think you can mix it in mashed potatoes with some romano, but what other things could I do with it? Current Mood: indifferent

Pasta salad recipe?!?!
I went to the deli today and noticed the tastiest looking pasta salad. I got a pound to bring home. HOLY COW IS IT FABULOUS!!! I have an idea of what it is, but wonder if anyone has an actual recipe for this salad. Here's what I know is in it:
Bow tie pasta
pine nuts (how clever I love this part of it!!!)
oil and vinegar based dressing
If you've ever made something like this, hit me up with some more ideas or things that I'm possibly missing.
